If there is one tree that Victorians love it is the Garry Oak, a protected species unique to southern Vancouver Island. I’ve loved oak leaf clusters since way back and I’ve been looking for a way to render this traditional motif for a while. This piece uses my favourite stained glass, Tiffany Art Glass, handmade by Youghiogheny. The colours and texture are superb. I decided, for the first time, to use black glass as the background in order to “punch up” the intensity of the colours. It was a good choice – the most common reaction to this piece has been “Wow!”
